Assessment for Learning (AfL) is recognised as one of the most powerful approaches for supporting student learning at all levels of education. Broad pedagogical elements, including sharing learning intentions and success criteria, questioning, and feedback loops are known to improve teacher practice and student results. However, the implementation of this integrated suite of practices can be challenging. In this online interactive workshop, we position sharing and co-constructing success criteria as a hinge practice in AfL. Leveraging classroom footage of secondary school practitioners in English and mathematics, participants will explore how success criteria can be an anchor for generative teacher and peer feedback. Participants will: - consider how teachers’ nuanced understandings of success criteria can make quality disciplinary learning clear and accessible to students
- hear from teachers about the decisions they made to provide a coherent experience of learning for their students
- discuss the potential in how typical ways of working in mathematics could inform classroom assessment practices in English—and vice versa
- be invited to complete a survey about their ideas and practices
- take away ideas for how to build disciplinary and adaptive expertise in AfL
