ETAQ proudly recognises Megan Huber as a recipient of the 2025 Peter Botsman Memorial Award for her outstanding and sustained contributions to English education in Queensland, particularly in the field of English as an Additional Language or Dialect (EAL/D). Megan exemplifies the spirit of this award through her leadership, innovation, and unwavering commitment to excellence beyond the classroom.
With over 15 years of experience across diverse educational contexts in Australia and the United Kingdom, Megan has consistently demonstrated a deep commitment to improving literacy outcomes for EAL/D learners. As Assistant Head of Faculty for Diverse Learning and Head of International Students at St Laurence’s College, she has led the development of differentiated curriculum and assessment practices, ensuring equitable access to English education for all students.
Megan’s influence extends statewide through her roles with the Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority (QCAA), where she has served as Chief Confirmer, Lead Marker, and Subject Matter Expert for English for EAL Learners. Her leadership in syllabus development, grade boundary reviews, and prescribed text selection has shaped policy and practice across Queensland schools. Notably, she co-led a QCAA webinar series and participated in a professional film project showcasing best practices in EAL/D differentiation.
A passionate mentor and professional development leader, Megan has guided pre-service teachers, facilitated teacher-driven observation initiatives, and presented at national conferences, including the ACTA International QATESOL Conference. Her work has empowered educators across Queensland to adopt inclusive, evidence-based approaches to English teaching.
