Grammar via zoom 23

This workshop will be presented via zoom to cater for those who cannot attend in person.

Date: Saturday 25 March Time: 9 - 1pm

Purpose: To assist attendees to develop their understanding of grammar in order to fully comprehend and to effectively teach the Australia Curriculum: English (AC:E).

Elaboration: After a short general introduction, we'll work with short texts suitable for use in secondary school English classrooms. On this occasion, the texts will be from, or related to, Shakespeare's play Twelfth Night.

Participants will be guided in the analysis of the grammatical choices that have been made in the composition of the texts and have the opportunity to consider how those choices construct particular sorts of meanings. Evaluative language (the Appraisal system) and nominalisation will feature in some of the chosen texts. The activity could be considered as a mental-muscle-building work-out in the 'grammar gym'.

References will be made to content descriptions and elaborations from the most recent version of the AC:E, version 9.0, issued last year after an extensive review.
