A grammar workshop will be held at Elanora State High School on Saturday 29 May 2021 to assist attendees to develop their understandings of grammar in order to fully comprehend and to effectively teach the Australia Curriculum: English (AC:E). Also highly relevant to Years 11 & 12.
This will be an updated re-run of the activity conducted in both 2018 and 2019. We'll work with short texts suitable for use in secondary school English classrooms. They will be literary texts or ones that could be used in conjunction with them.
Attendees will be guided in the analysis of the grammatical choices that have been made in their composition and have the opportunity to consider how those choices construct particular sorts of meanings. Evaluative language (the Appraisal system) and nominalisation will feature in some of the chosen texts.
Attendees are invited to work through the pre-workshop task before the event.
