Mad month of May

Mad PD Madness

May was a huge month for ETAQ PD in Brisbane with 4 great PD events in May (and on June 4) including:
Beginning Teachers Day (May 7) with keynote by Jessica Matthew entitled Beginnings, Challenges and Aspirations: First Year and Beyond. Thanks again to Brigidine College for hosting this event and to Melanie Wild for organising this event, for the third time around. We are excited that another early career teacher, Melissa Blacklock, is preparing to take over the reins in 2017.

Differentiating for EALD Learners (May 14) with Dr Jennifer Alford and Gae Nastasi presenting. This new event struck a chord with attendees who spent part of the time workshopping their approach to their own classes. Thanks to Kelvin Grove State College for hosting the day and Laura Cooke for organising.

Seminar 2: Script, Stage and Screen in the English Classroom (May 21) with Associate Professor Jane Stadler and Dr Linda Hassall. Attendees enjoyed the tour de force into these important realms of English teaching, reminding all of the range of resources and perspectives that can be brought to our classroom teaching. Thanks to The Gap State High School for the hosting and Diana Briscoe and Bronwyn Darben for organising.

Garry's Grammar Day (June 4) where Garry offered day 2 in his series aimed to equip teachers to be confident in their teaching of grammar for ACARA. Thanks to Garry Collins for continuing to provide this important service to members and to UQ for the venue.

It has been a busy month for Trish Purcell, managing so many events in a row. Her continuing commitment to the needs to ETAQ members is always appreciated.
