State Conference 2018

State Conference in 2018 will address the theme Vision 2020: Seeing the future of English Teaching.

Keynote speakers:

Nick Earls is the author of twenty-six books, including adult novels such as Zigzag Street and young-adult CBCA Book of the Year winner 48 Shades of Brown. Two of his books have been adapted into feature films and five into stage plays. His most recent work is the novella series Wisdom Tree, which has won awards in Australia and the US and been called 'a triumphant and extraordinary piece of fiction' by the Sydney Morning Herald.

In his presentation, Nick will be giving lots of tips on creative writing.

Professor Beryl Exley, Griffith University, is an expert in curriculum literacies, functional grammar and English curriculum. She is the current national president of the Australian Literacy Educators' Association. "For me, literacy teaching and learning is a social justice issue. Students' access to literacy impicates their life choices and thus their life chances. Teachers need to be well resourced with content knowledge and pedagogical knowledge so that they are well placed to bring out the best in their students."
