Assistance to attend the State Conference
Financial assistance is available for two country members to attend ETAQ’s annual State Conference to be conducted at Lourdes Hill College at Hawthorne in Brisbane on Saturday 18 August. On offer is free registration and $200 towards the cost of travel and accommodation.
All that is required in return is an article based on the conference experience for publication in Words’Worth. To apply, just send me an email (gazco48@bigpond.net.au) explaining why you would be a suitable recipient.
Free registration is also available for a Brisbane based student member in return for an article for the journal. Again, send me an email to apply.
Feedback on ACARA’s draft senior English courses
A updated draft response (Draft 3 dated 1 July 12) to the suite of senior English subjects proposed by ACARA for the Australian Curriculum has been posted to the “Australian Curriculum” Page to be found under the Discussions tab on the ETAQ website at http://www.etaq.org.au/?page_id=881. The new sections in this draft are highlighted in yellow. Thanks to Jennifer Alford and Dr Anita Jetnikoff from QUT for contributing material on the EAL/D option.
Members are again encouraged to find the time to contribute to ETAQ’s response. Any feedback should be sent to me at gazco48@bigpond.net.au. In addition, a meeting to finalise ETAQ’s submission will be held at QUT’s Kelvin Grove campus (Room L102, Level 1, L Block) on Saturday 14 July beginning at 9:30 am. All interested members are invited to attend. If you plan to come, please advise me via email to gazco48@bigpond.net.auso we can know how many people to expect.
A PD opportunity in Sydney
I appreciate that this is a rather late reminder but some members may still be able to organize to attend the “Language in Education Day”, Wednesday 18 July, of the International Systemic Functional Congress being held at UTS in Sydney. Further information can be found at http://www.socialsemiotics.org/ISFC39/wednesday-is-education-day/.
AATE National Conference
Also on the topic of professional learning in Sydney but with more lead time, members are again reminded of the great opportunity to combine CPD and travel represented by this year’s AATE national conference to be held at Sydney Grammar School on 3-4 October. Early Bird registrations close 1st August and on-line registration is now open at http://www.englishteacher.com.au/FiveBells/Home.aspx. I hope that I’ll be joined by a strong ETAQ contingent.
Paid project work – materials for the Australian Curriculum
